The Vintage Gamer #13: Acquire (BG)

Posted by: Jim   in Board games, Podcasts

This week, the classic game of mergers and acquisitions: Sid Sackson’s Acquire.
So take a break from your ticker tape, or cancel your plans to defenestrate, and give a listen.

Show notes:

Final Thoughts:
I lost part of the audio during editing – in particular the part that announced the new voice mail service. Ah well, I’ll make sure and do that next time. If you actually read this, the number is to the right.

Another point I couldn’t quite fit in is that you really shouldn’t consider yourself an owner of the chains that you form. The only advantage is that you get that one extra stock – after that anyone can buy in and take over as majority holder.

Any reason you went from episode #10 to #13? Are 11 and 12 only going to be release on a special DVD collector’s edition? 🙂

I realized that the numbering was off, due to the two GDC reports. This is my attempt to fix it and get back on track.

Any chance you will do a show on West End’s Paranoia on one of your RPG shows?

Thanks for an excellent show.

I wish you’d extend forwards in time to do more recent games too, but either way, please keep up the good work.

Mule… I’m super-excited about the next podcast on Mule. I still have my original 5.25″ floppy and packaging from the 80’s.

Miguel: I’m considering Paranoia, but it may require me setting up a few sessions which is not so easy with our RPG group right now. I’ll also have to track down a copy of the original edition.

Iain: I’ll be doing some capsule reviews of more recent games as part of my Origins report, and maybe a Dragon*Con report, but my primary focus will always be the older games — it’s all part of the schtick. Glad you like it, though!

As a long time player of Acquire I loved the show!
Another computer version I’d like to point out is called “Ackwire”, this was put out for PalmOS and has had several updates, it’s my favorite computer version to play, and it’s free!
